Day 9: Boston Trip, Friday

April 22, 2011
This morning Kyler took Kirk & I to this sweet park. When I say park I don't mean a regular playground one. It was like a mountainous, foresty, one. It was wonderful. That park alone told me that maybe I could live in Boston as long as I was by that. It was calm and peaceful and fun.
Here are the boys ready to go.
Little did I know that by going I would end up pushing the stroller by myself and the boys ran ahead. lol. That's okay though I needed the exercise after all the yummy food we have eaten. Also, it was nice just to walk and enjoy it. The boys did great.

About a mile and a half in there was this cute playground. So I stopped with the boys and they loved it.Kirk took this picture on his phone. It was take at the middle of their run on top of a mountain.
They met me at the park though and the little boys had fun playing with their dads.

Kyden LOVES slides
Gavin and Kyler swing in sync.
Across the path from the playground they had this lake. It was all set up with a lifeguard tower and everything. When it gets warmer I bet that place will be packed.
It was an awesome park. Later that afternoon all of us got on the bus to head up to Bunker Hill. The goal...Finish the Freedom Trail. On the way Landon threw up all over himself and Kyler on the bus so we got off at the next stop. It was the USS Constitution. Part of the freedom trail. Kyler took it like a champ and they were prepared with a change of clothes. Kirk entertaining the boys while the rest of us cleaned up.Here we are in front of one of the boats.

Abby and I doing our best Piratey pose.

You could go on the ship it was free. (Yay) but we did have to wait in line.

The dads and the boys.
Because Landon had fallen asleep in the stroller and strollers weren't allowed Abby waited in the visitor center. The boat was really neat. Too bad all Kyden wanted to do was run around on it and there were a million people up there and I'm sure they didn't want kids running all over everything we took a quick look, some quick pictures and took our exit.

Abby & I went and looked at the gift shop and couldn't resist taking some pictures.
(Abby)
Don't ask... I was trying.
(Kelli)After that Landon woke up and was a pretty unhappy kid so the McEwens decided to head home and Kirk and I decided to finish the Freedom trail seeing as our trip was over in a few more days. :( We would've loved to have them along.
Kyden was ready for the long walk. Kirk and I were just hoping that Ky would be happy enough to stay in his stroller so we didn't have to carry him.
We walked up to Bunker Hill. They were doing construction on it so we couldn't go up inside of it. Notice that Kyden fell asleep? Yay! Kirk walked the Trail.. See how nicely marked that is? Also, Kirk is really good looking from the front but he is to from the back! (don't get mad Kirk) Here is a picture of the streets. The house are pretty cool to look at but it is a bit to crowded for my taste.
On the freedom trail you walk across this bridge and it was cool. But it was also a little creepy. The bridge was made of metal and was sturdy but when you look down you could see the water through the bridge. It was like walking on a metal crate. But we made it and I'm sure so have millions of others. On the other side was..
It's nickname is "Little Italy" There was a lot of Italian restaurants and they had the houses decorated like Italy it was really cool. The next stop on the trail.
The second oldest Burying ground in Boston.
Kirk taking his picture by the marker on the trail. (I took mine a few days ago.) The trail goesacross Boston and is only about 2.5 miles long. crazy huh?
This picture was taken just outside of Copp's Hill.
That is the old North Church. Sound familiar it should.
This is why.
It's cool that after hearing all the stories of Paul Revere we actually got to see where it had happened.
Here is a tour guide that we saw that I thought was awesome!
The statue of Paul Revere just behind the church.
On the way to Paul's house following the freedom trail was this. Mike's Pastry. It is apparently a very popular place. The line was crazy and inside was even crazier. But we had to do it because so many people told us it was worth it. We bought 4 canollis but didn't eat them because we wanted to eat them with the McEwens Next stop Paul Reever house. However, you had to pay to get in and Kyden was still asleep and I was pretty sure you couldn't take those in there we just stayed outside.
I did peek around the corner and get a picture of it though. Abby told us that it was cool to realize how far Paul had run to warn everyone that the redcoats were coming. It wasn't as far and I thought it was but it was still really cool.
2 hours since we left the McEwens here is Kyden...Still which is amazing because it was loud and we were going on cobblestone sidewalks.
This was a really cool memorial also by the trail.

The towers had mist in them and they were to represent the gas chambers.
On our way to Quincy market we saw some street performers. That guy did a flip over those people. It was awesome.
Here we are outside of Quincy Market.
Another street performer hanging upside down and tied up trying to get undone.

We stopped here for dinner
Kirk got Clam Chowder. Half way through dinner Kyden finally woke up. 2 and a 1/2 hours is a really long nap for him but it was perfect because we were able to enjoy the trail and everything else.
I got some pizza which I shared with Kyden then I got some gellato. It tasted just like regular ice cream to me. But it was still good. They had a lot of shops in the Market. Here is ky trying on a hat. After the market we headed back to the subway which was in the bottom of this historic building. (Which I also talked about earlier) We had walked the majority of the Freedom Trail during this trip and it was awesome.
When we got back to the McEwen's they shared a story with us about their ride home. on the 15 minute bus ride they got stuck in traffic for 45 mins. Gavin had peed out of his diaper so Abby and Kyler were sitting in it and the dried vomit from Landon earlier was now wet and starting to smell again. Poor guys. They really have such good attitude about it. After a delicious dinner and during some games we opened up the box from Mike's Pastries and sampled all 4 of them. Lemoncello, peanut butter, strawberry, and oreo.
They were all delicious.
